This site includes books, video links and websites documenting the life and accomplishments of Martin Luther King, Jr.
Teachers and students, grades kindergarten-4th, will find this a resourceful and enriching site for their curriculum. I have included several books all dealing with King's life and legacy. It is important to offer many different titles when developing a unit.
I have taught kindergarten, 1st and 3rd grade and have used most of the included resources in my curriculum.
QUOTES FROM MLK, JR~
"Now, I say to you today my friends, even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: -'we hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal'."
"Injustice anywhere is a threat to injustice everywhere."
"I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear."
"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
"We may have all come on different ships but we're in the same boat now."
"The time is always right to do what is right."
"The strong man is the man who can stand up for his rights and not hit back."
In 1968, Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee. Shortly after the incident, Robert Kennedy announced the sad news to a group of people in Indianapolis, Indiana. This is an audio of his speech.
